Marriott Steps In For Historical Win July 27, 2009
Posted by John Copain in : Hilton Head Island, Marriott Timeshares , trackbackMost timeshare resorts don’t have much history attached to their structures. Even resorts in areas that feature historic attractions – such as timeshares in Williamsburg;, Virginia or Hilton Head Island timeshares in South Carolina – are often very new buildings designed to resemble their aged surroundings. However, the Marriott Custom House in Boston is not your average timeshare resort. For starters, the building itself is one of Boston’s most recognizable skyscrapers and has been a staple of the Boston Harbor skyline for since the addition of the tower section of the building around 1910. To give you an idea of the age of the building, it was originally completed in 1849.
For many years the Marriott Custom House in Boston was the actual custom house that inspected cargo coming in to Boston Harbor. The customs department moved to a different building in the mid-80s leaving the building to city surplus property and then available to be purchased.
And the rest is history…
The move has been praised by both the city of Boston and the National Trust for Historical Preservation because Marriott converting it into a timeshare condo ensures the building will remain a part of Boston for a long time. The move also benefits Marriott as they can now provide the only timeshare accommodations in Boston proper and allow the owners to enjoy an unrivaled view of the city. The building is 30 stories and holds 84 timeshare units. Even in a city with more than 200 years of history it is a real treat to stay inside a piece of cherished history.
