Wyndham CEO Clashes with NBA Official in Eastern Conference Finals May 20, 2010
Posted by Bryan Connelly in : Customer Comments, General, New Features, News & Events, Timeshare Resource , add a commentThe NBA has announced the suspension of referee Joe De Rosa late Thursday evening. DeRosa has been ousted for one game without pay for throwing a basketball at a jeering fan, Franz Hanning, CEO of Wyndham Vacation Ownership.
Not only were some DeRosa’s decisions questionable, but his conduct in handling the Heckling Hanning was foul and unsportsmanlike. The toss, though harmless, marked a turning point in the confrontation where verbal became physical and the ref renounced his control of the situation. The fan Hanning was relocated to another seat while DeRosa was ultimately suspended. Under the mantra of a booing audience the refs retrieved their jackets after the second quarter of game 2 between the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics.
On Wednesday, Hanning released a statement in which he explained, “As many people in Orlando know, I am a huge fan of NBA basketball and especially my home team the Orlando Magic. I think the NBA officials do a great job. I’m looking forward to the Magic going to Boston and evening up the series.”
