Bluegreen Corp. to Reimburse Deceived Owners June 15, 2010

A major brand in the hospitality industry, Bluegreen Corporation has agreed to a settlement proposed by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. After an arduous lawsuit filed back in October of 2008, complaints about the company’s questionable sales tactics have finally been addressed. Bluegreen has agreed to cancel contracts and pay refunds to consumers who have filed valid complaints regarding their timeshare purchases.

Often we hear of the age-old timeshare hustle where prospective buyers are lured into high-pressure sales presentations with promises of free vacations or other enticing prizes that turn out to be little more than a coupon limited by extensive fine-print. Based in the Boca-Raton, Florida the timeshare developer was allegedly using deceptive sales techniques and improper contracts in the marketing and sale of timeshare ownerships in Pennsylvania.

Many owners have felt as though their timeshares are not truly the investment they were hyped up to be. Many of the owners looking to BuyATimeshare.com for a way to market and sell their timeshares often feel they were deceived or pressured into the initial purchase. Specializing in the timeshare resale industry, BuyATimeshare.com helps thousands of people market vacation properties they don’t use, can no longer afford, or had no intention of purchasing until they met the same devious and high-pressure conditions. The lawsuit aims to resolve any complaints including consumers who were unable to use their timeshare, false promises about when or where owners could travel and situations where timeshare purchasers did not receive the services or discounts they were promised during the sales presentation.

I would be happy to have them buy my timeshare back as soon as possible. I certainly have not gotten out of it what I expected. In fact I was told that they would buy it back if I was unhappy. When I asked about this later I was asked if I had gotten it in writing.

I’m a BLUEGREEN owner for longer than I care to remember…but I’ve been able to afford it…sort of. The sad part of this news is that (I think) those who say they have been “deceived” now have to prove they have been deceived…pretty hard to do when you give your signature on legal documents. Here’s hoping for a good outcome.
